Potatoes

O’Shea Farms supply potatoes to Iverk Produce all year round, who sell directly to Aldi, HelloFresh, and many wholesalers in the South East. We are members of the Irish Potato Federation and support their campaign to develop potato consumption as a healthy food option.

We grow a wide variety of early and main crop potatoes. We also store, pack and distribute potatoes for 40 other potato growers in Leinster and Munster. Early varieties include Premier, Home Guard and Queens. These early varieties are harvested from mid-May to July.

Our main crop potatoes are harvested from July to October. Main crop varieties include Rooster, Kerr’s Pink, Golden Wonders, Maris Piper and several other white varieties. These potatoes are kept in specialist potato stores which ensures top quality Irish potatoes are available 365 days a year. You can read more details about the most common varieties grown in Ireland here.

O’Shea Farms are the only potato distributors in Ireland who pack Irish salad and baby potatoes all year round. They are a growing category, popular with younger consumers due to convenience.

We support anyone who likes to grow potatoes with this book “Growing the Potato Crop” by John J. Burke, which is free to download and has been translated into several languages.   Growing the Potato Crop

Potato Varieties

Rooster Potatoes

Developed by the Potato Breeding Programme at Teagasc, Carlow in 1991, the Rooster became Ireland’s most popular potato in just a short few years.

Often called “the housewives’ favourite” due to its easy peeling and versatility for cooking, the Rooster accounts for 60% of household potato sales in Ireland. O’Shea Farms grow the Rooster variety as their main crop.

White Potatoes

For many years, several thousand tonnes of white potatoes, grown specifically for the chip shop trade, have been imported from the UK and Spain.

Since 2020, O’Shea Farms have worked closely with Meadowfresh Foods and The Irish Potato Development Group to develop an Irish chipping potato trade. This is now a fast-growing market for Irish potato growers and has given us an opportunity to diversify the varieties we grow.

Salad & Baby Potatoes

O’Shea Farms are leaders in producing premium-quality salad and baby potatoes in Ireland. Traditionally imported from the UK and France, these popular potatoes are now grown locally thanks to significant investment in grower training and industry-leading technologies.

Consumer demand for salad and baby potatoes continues to grow year on year, driven by changing tastes, convenience, and a focus on healthier meal options. Our unique climate and fertile soils create the perfect conditions for growing consistently high-quality crops to meet this rising demand.

Today, we supply our customers with 100% Irish salad and baby potatoes all year round, reducing food miles and supporting the local economy.

The main variety we grow is Jazzy, prized for its taste, texture, and appearance. We hold exclusive growing rights for Jazzy potatoes in the Republic of  Ireland, ensuring a unique, high-quality offering for our consumers.
